This notice explains how Clear Trading Journal handles personal information when you use cleartradingjournal.com. Clear Trading Journal is responsible for the information you provide to this service. Contact us at contact@cleartradingjournal.com about privacy or your data.
Information we process
- Account information: your email address, name, account identifier and authentication/session information. Clerk manages sign-in credentials and verification for us. The journal database does not store your password.
- Google sign-in: if you choose Google, Google and Clerk provide basic identity information such as your Google identifier, name, email address and profile image. We request identity, email and basic profile scopes, not access to Gmail, Drive or your trading accounts.
- Journal information: the trading accounts, broker/platform labels, balances, trades, prices, dates, profit and loss, risk details, notes and review information you enter or import.
- Technical information: our hosting and authentication providers process information such as IP addresses, browser/device details, request times, security events and service errors to operate and protect the service.
- Support messages: information you choose to send us when you contact us.
Import files are uploaded for processing. The application stores the trade records you confirm; it does not maintain a separate archive of the original uploaded files. Please avoid including information unrelated to your trading journal.
Why we use it
We use account and journal information to provide the service you request: authenticate you, keep your records associated with your account, save and display trades, calculate performance statistics and respond to support requests. Where data-protection law requires a lawful basis, this processing is necessary to provide our service to you.
We also process technical information for our legitimate interests in preventing abuse, protecting accounts, diagnosing failures and keeping the service reliable. We may retain or disclose information when necessary to meet legal obligations. Journal statistics help you review your trading; they are not automated decisions about your eligibility, credit or access to financial services.
Service providers and sharing
We use Clerk for authentication and account management, and Cloudflare for hosting, database storage, delivery and security. They process information needed to provide these services. Google processes information when you choose Google sign-in under its privacy policy. We do not send your trading journal to Google as part of sign-in.
The application does not sell your journal data or use it for advertising. Your records are not publicly listed or shared with other journal users. Access by the service operator may be necessary for support, security or maintenance. We may disclose information if legally required or necessary to protect the service and its users.
Optional Clear Coach
Where Clear Coach is enabled, generating coaching sends aggregate review counts, compliance percentages and outcome counts to OpenAI. It does not send your name, email, journal notes, trade amounts, instruments or individual trade records. This only happens when you request a new summary. We cache one summary per user and reuse it for up to 24 hours when the statistics are unchanged; outdated summaries are not shown. Cached text may remain until replaced or your account data is deleted.
We request that API responses are not stored for retrieval. Provider security and abuse-monitoring retention may still apply; this is not a promise of zero retention. See OpenAI’s API data controls. Coaching is generated text about your recorded process and can make mistakes.
Cookies, browser storage and the demo
Authentication and security services use cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions and protect sign-in. Blocking them may prevent login. The application does not currently include advertising trackers. Hosting providers may produce operational traffic statistics.
The demo uses sample data and browser session storage. Demo edits are not saved to the journal database. Reset the demo to replace your edits with sample data, or clear the site’s browser storage to remove the saved state. Exiting the demo does not itself clear browser storage, and browser session restoration may preserve it. Requests to load the demo still pass through our hosting provider.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and journal records while you use the service, unless you delete records or request account deletion. You can delete trades and trading accounts in the journal. Contact us to request deletion of your sign-in account and associated journal data; signing out or disconnecting Google does not itself delete those records.
Backup copies and operational/security logs may remain for the relevant providers’ retention periods. Retention depends on recovery needs, resolving security incidents and applicable legal obligations. Deleted information may remain in backups until those copies expire. Contact us for details relevant to your request.
International processing
Our providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Their data-processing terms describe the safeguards and transfer arrangements applicable to their services. Contact us for information about the arrangements used for your data.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location and the applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it. Contact us using the address above; we may need to verify your identity before acting.
You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office. You can manage or revoke Google account connections in your Google account settings.
